Why doesn’t the US have high-speed rail?

For some people in the US, rail travel seems a nostalgic figment of the past. For others, stronger rail networks promise economic revitalization outside urban centers, and a less congested, more connected country. Proposed high-speed rail projects have the potential to generate tremendous benefits, but only if they can overcome logistical and political challenges.

Home Grown School Meals for Healthy Kids and Happy Farmers

Around the world, school meals programs are one of the most important ways children receive the nourishment they need to thrive. In the United States, students received lunches at school from as early as 1894, as an incentive and an effort to support the education of students who were newly required to attend school instead of working to feed and clothe their families.

Today, the National School Lunch Program provides millions of children with low or no cost school meals, but many schools, faced with budgetary and logistical constraints, serve primarily unhealthy, highly processed foods.

But for an increasing number of schools nationwide, adopting a home-grown meal program provides nutritional and educational benefits that are unmatched by more homogeneous options.

Eating insects could add more sustainable protein to U.S. diets

I first encountered Uganda’s love for nsenene - sauteed grasshoppers - on the streets of Kampala. People purchased small black plastic baggies from men leaning against motorcycles, then reached into the bag and popped the high-protein delicacies into their mouths. Women worked at preparing bowls full of the tiny green creatures with knives and frying pans. At night, the trapping operations were in full swing, fortresses of sheet metal with bright lights that would have been at home at a high school football game.

Social Media

I vetted and supervised influencers producing content related to food and fuel sustainability.

When the Sustainable America Board asked us to experiment with TikTok as an outlet, I scripted, shot, and edited video content. We also worked with paid posts to increase our reach.
